The Challenge

• Managing high volumes of traffic during peak events, such as Black Friday, became a critical issue, as the existing infrastructure struggled to handle the demand without slowing down or creating bottlenecks. This directly impacted the platform’s reliability and customer satisfaction.
• Collaboration between teams was another challenge. The development process was slowed down by cumbersome workflows and inefficiencies. This made it difficult to address issues or roll out new features quickly.
• Additionally, Flip’s microservices architecture was not optimized for scalability or easy expansion. Adding new microservices or updating existing ones required considerable time and effort.
• Certain platform functionalities, such as payments, deliveries, and authentication, were also in need of improvement. These core features were prone to errors and lacked automation.

• Key microservices were deployed to Google Cloud Run for smoother development and new feature roll-outs.

• Google Cloud’s Global Load Balancer was introduced to manage high traffic volumes and maintain performance even during peak events like Black Frida

• For database management, we implemented CloudSQL for Postgres, equipped with System Insights and Query Insights to provide better monitoring and observability.
